RFOC has been nurturing and protecting the biodiversity of these woodlands since 1999, providing a safe haven for Centre residents as well as local forest birds, animals, and plants.
Wood is the most popular building material, however, it does have a limited lifespan. It does not, however, nullify the environmental damage caused by man-made products. In this peaceful area of Rutland, conservation projects have included a variety of different possibilities, and a strong educational component has grown along surprising lines.
The safety and well-being of the birds of prey and other animals at the Rutland Falconry and Owl Centre is always a priority. They are blessed to be the custodians of Burley Bushes Ancient Woodland, which stretches over 42 acres near Rutland Water and is surrounded by the spectacular Black Poplar.
The Centre is home to a world-class collection of birds of prey, including owls, hawks, buzzards, falcons, eagles, and vultures, who coexist with a diverse range of flora and fauna. Some birds of prey enjoy being handled, some will fly for you, and yet others prefer to be observed from a safe distance.
